Got a kid who never stops moving?

Reader...

My kids are busy kids. Moving. All. The. Time.

Letting them be bored can be good... but it can also be oh-so-bad.

Crafts are not their thing. Sitting is not their thing.

What do you do when you have a kid that's always super busy?

By busy, I mean that they don't like to sit still, they may fidget a bunch, they just have to always be doing something. My kids just bounce -- a lot.

Below are some quick ideas that might work to keep your busy kid... well, busy!

  1. Sensory activities -- these usually stimulate them and are open-ended enough that they can do as they please. Play dough is excellent for a busy kid --https://handsonaswegrow.com/play-dough-monster-counting-activity
  2. Gross motor activities - Seriously, kids need to move a lot -- so you need to give them the avenue - whether its by heading to the playground, or out in the backyard. But if that's not a possibility -- get them moving with activities, try 6 lines of tape and see what happens! https://handsonaswegrow.com/5-different-activities-for-6-lines-of-tape/ (so many ideas you can find here: https://handsonaswegrow.com/fun-activities-active-kids)
  3. Fine + Gross motor activities -- These are often little things for them to concentrate on coupled with a gross motor activity. This usually keeps the wildness that a gross motor activity may bring at bay. Like popping bubble wrap in a runway -- https://handsonaswegrow.com/bubble-runway-popping/
  4. Pretend play -- I always think my kids aren't good at pretend play, but it's such realistic pretend play that I don't even realize it, but it is! Setting up a town or roads for them to play cars, trains, farm on usually keeps my busy kids busy! https://handsonaswegrow.com/tape-road-simple-activity/
  5. Thinking activities -- If I get my kids deep in thought, they're going to keep busy -- these are my favorite because they're usually quiet in their thoughts. A favorite of mine is our block puzzle -- https://handsonaswegrow.com/learning-activity-floor-puzzles/

Are you right there with me? Do you have a super busy kid? (Reply and let me know)

Of course, you can always try some quiet activities.....

Reader-Planning enough activities to keep an active preschooler (or toddler) busy -- can get daunting and overwhelming to keep up... ... and can end up being not-so-much-fun anymore... “It wasn’t that fun because I was trying to control it too much.” Do you ever feel that way? That's actually a quote from Liz R, a member of The Activity Room -- ROOM has allowed her to let go of that control a little bit and let the activity go where it naturally needs to go. I felt like I was all over the...
