Why worksheets don’t work for little learners

Hi Reader!

Did you know that kids can be super smart and creative when they figure things out on their own, without being told exactly what to do?

It's true! I read an article a long time ago that has stuck with me over the years. It talked about two studies on why preschool shouldn't be like regular school. You can read more about it here if you want.​

It reiterated to me that worksheets are not the best way for kids to learn, especially little ones like preschoolers and toddlers. Those worksheets have instructions that tell them exactly what to do and how to do it. That's okay, but it only teaches them one way to solve a problem and doesn't let them think for themselves.

I just think learning should be fun so that kids can keep being creative and love learning.

So, can you promise me something? Can we avoid using worksheets for the little ones?

These activities are hands-on and lots of fun. They will also help with their fine motor skills, tracing, and getting ready for reading and writing. No worksheets needed!

By the way, I'm not a big fan of worksheets in general, but especially for toddlers and preschoolers. Maybe they're useful for older kids, but let's save them for later, okay?
